Making Kids Toys can be a great Niche Profitable Business

Making kid's toys can be very satisfying and gratifying for yourself and you can make your son or daughter or relative very happy. It can also become a great niche profitable business.There are many examples of toys that can be easily made on the internet or in your public library. Some of these might be wooden toys for instance. You might like to make wooden ride on toys, wooden animals that have moving legs, wooden boats or even wooden tree houses. It really depends on your expertise and skill level and to a degree on the tools you have available as well. But most can be made with a small saw, a drill, a hammer, a screw driver and some sand paper.For those lucky enough to have tools such as a bandsaw in their shed, well that is going to make a much faster job of it and for sure a better job as well as its going to give the ability to cut around corners as well. If you don't have a bandsaw then an electric jigsaw will do nearly as well, but it's not really effective on wood thicker than a half inch. The good thing is though that these days because of Asian manufacturing even bandsaws can be bought new or second hand very cheaply.Once you've made a few of these toys you'll be surprised how quickly your skills will develop. At this point you might think of how you might create a business out of this. First you would have to evaluate what it is that you want to make and market. You should consider a few things first. How easy is it to make? If it's quite complex and takes time, that's not necessarily a bad thing if it is a little different than what's on the market already and can command a good price that will make you a nice profit. But, if it is the same as many other things on the market and remember there are a lot of cheap imports these days, then maybe it's best to look at making something a lot more simple that's faster to make. Also, you should consider other parameters like the cost of materials and overall weight. If it becomes quite big and heavy then it be difficult to pack and customers may not be happy to pay a large freight bill.You might like to consider making kid's toys other than toys made from wood.For example, how about puppets, particulary glove puppets. There are plenty of sites on the internet showing you how these can be very simply made and also they can be very inexpensive to make as they can simply be made from scraps of material lying about the house. Believe me, kid's love glove puppets and will have hours of fun with such a simple idea and toy. Also, it's something that they can so easily make themselves which is a great idea to drag them off the computer or if they are a bit unruly on a rainy day, just to quiet them down giving you some peace on your own.There's many ideas for you out there to make a nice business of making kid's toys, it's really up to your budget, creativity and skill level. Once you've established your toy niche then it's time to look at how to market your product. You should look at packaging and branding at this point too. But, probably best to start slow, sell some at your local market, build up some confidence and income and then think about packaging after this. The internet is of course a great place to sell these days, particulary places like Ebay and Craig's List, also consider suitable retail stores within your town,
