Would you buy your daughter a train or block set?

I bought my daughter a little wooden train set and block set today so teach how to built and put things together. I used to play with such toys when i was little and thought it might be a great idea to get them for my daughter. I want them to teach her that just because she is a girl does not mean she can't pay with these things. I don't want her to think that only boys can build and construct.

My question is: Would you buy such toys for your daughter (or if you had a daughter)?

I hope this is making sense, LOL.
I have bought them for her and yeah that's my girl. I am just wondering if i am alone in doing this. Just wondering if other parents would or do do it.
LOL, Will i would not get my sons (if i had them) a doll either unless it was an action figure of some sort.

ABSOLUTELY!

When my daughter was young, I got her legos, gears, trucks---all sorts of toys that most people think are "boy oriented" (And I did not forbid "girl" things...I just didn't make them the focus. ) I refused to buy her the cutsie pink and purple lego sets, because they were too gender specific (they sold ones to build beauty salons, dress shops...ick)

The pay off came in grammar school, when the kids were tested for spatial skills. Girls "traditionally" are not as able as boys (a ten to one ratio on that), but Desi was off the charts for her ability to not only think in three dimensions, but to construct things as well.

She went on to be seriously strong in math and science---with no tutors, or coaching. I have long wondered if the toys we put in our children's hands don't influence their development. I know that the idea that something is for "boys" certainly does.
