When training a dog to recognize toys by name do all toys have to have different names?

I'm training my dog to recognize his toys by name. He's has several Kong toys. He has a few that are Red but some are Pink and Blue. I would like to teach him the difference between the colors so I will give the pink and blue ones another name but can I lump all the red ones (same type) into the same category by calling them all "Kong's" or will this get confusing for him? Similarly if I call "all" his tennis balls "ball" or does each tennis ball have to have a separate name? Experienced answers only please.

My pit bull knows wich is his red kong, his black kong, his orange ball and his green ball...all other colors of balls we just say "bring me a ball" and he will pick a random color besides the green or orange one. If it has a squeeker we call it a "squeekie" he has a duck and we say bring me your duck, and he knows wich one that is....my advice would be to try to lump as many together as you can...
